TICKET TO RIDE 1959 2
For the sake of completeness, here's the other side of that railway ticket. We now think the actual date stamped on it is 25th March 1959. Stamping the date on a ticket validated it for travel. Note that the ticket has been issued not by British Railways, but by the British Transport Commission, a brave post-war attempt to introduce co-ordinated and integrated transport which foundered on the rocks of political expediency as Government caved in to the ever more powerful road lobby.
