LNWR MIDDLEWICH SIGNAL BOX SIGN

Photo: Middlewich Rail Link Campaign

by Dave Roberts

Here's a precious relic of Middlewich's railway past, now  in the possession of the Middlewich Rail Link Campaign and safely housed at the home of  a committee member. It's one of the signs from the London & North Western Railway's signal box at Middlewich, which was abolished in 1980.

The story of how the sign was recovered and returned to its home town, along with other details, can be found here.

Somewhere there must be another, identical sign. The signal box had two; one at the 'Northwich' end and one at the 'Sandbach' end, and it's highly unlikely that one sign would be preserved and not the other.

For a (very distant) shot of the sign in situ, look at this posting.
